I have two boys and I have a house full of Legos. They are my boys’ number one favorite toy. However, to avoid a total take over by the Legos there have been certain “Lego free” zones established in our house. The dining room table is number one. The school room is number two (aka the room formally known as the dining room until homeschooling took it over). Virtually no learning can take place if there are Legos in the hands of my children.
So imagine my boys’ delight when we started Pre-Level I Biology and Legos are the featured item in Experiment 1! ”Permission to play with Legos in school, mom?” “Permission granted, son.” But then to take that toy and consider it in new ways…ah, a brain stretching moment. We were quite glad to observe the various features of our Legos and connect them with the world around us. Categorizing and classifying all the various items of Experiment #1 brought a new sense of wonder to our world.
